Information for Chaplains
Are you a chaplain who is either currently deployed or soon-to-be-deployed in the Middle East? Want to find out how to get adopted?
It's easy! Just send us an e-mail requesting adoption. We will ask you for some basic information including branch of service and religious background. This information helps match you with appropriate support groups.
In the past two years, we have been honored to serve about 80 chaplains and the men and women under their care.
1. We are concerned first and foremost with your needs. Our attitude is that a chaplain must be personally upheld by prayer and other means in order to effectively minister to the needs of others.
2. We are zealous about protecting your privacy and that of your family. Correspondence with your spouse is headed by people who are trained Stephen ministers. Comments made to them are held in the strictest of confidence.
3. We make every effort to screen the groups who will help support you, but we're not perfect. We rely on you to tell us if you encounter any problems. Our CFO is a lawyer and he doesn't take kindly to people who abuse the relationships we establish.
Just e-mail Daniel to start the boxes coming!
Below is a recent e-mail from a chaplain who is winding down his deployment.
Dear all,
If you're deployed and haven't hooked up with Adopt-a-Chaplain, then you're missing out on a great blessing. They ship me boxes of goodies (for both our UMT and my soldiers) at least once or twice a week - often I get 3-5 boxes in one week! Recently they've been sending freezer pops, which have been a great hit on my rounds. They pray for me and my unit -- not only for safety, etc., but also for God's blessing as I prepare my sermons, and preach and reach out through special events. They take special requests and will go out of their way to find us what we need -- whether it's a comfort item or something for ministry. They even sent my wife some cookies and helped with a tax question from a couple years ago! And they don't ask much, if anything, in return. They've been a great blessing to me. They support chaplains of any religious tradition (they figure they'll let God sort out the details). One of the ladies involved makes the best persimmon cookies (I never new persimmons were used for anything edible, but those cookies are great - very different from anything I've ever had before, but very good at the same time). They've even got a little cottage in California that they've dedicated as a "Chaplain's Retreat" if you're in the neighborhood for a couple days! If you're interested, contact Daniel. God bless you!
